Wide Receiver Dwayne Bowe finally signed his franchise tender, according to a statement provided by the team on Friday. Bowe missed not only the entire offseason, but also training camp – and as of now, it’s unclear if he will join the Chiefs for the Saturday preseason game against St. Louis. Next week, the team is expected to pick up with practice at Arrowhead Stadium. One main concern with Bowe is if he’ll be ready to learn the offense in time to play against Seattle in next week’s game against the Seahawks. In the first game of the regular season, the Chiefs will be playing against the Atlanta Falcons.

Bowe isn’t the only player to sign at the last minute – there are still two other players who haven’t signed, including Pittsburgh WR Mike Wallace and Jacksonville running back Maurice Jones-Drew.

Bowe’s payday includes $9.5 million this season – both sides did not reach a long-term deal by the mid-July deadline and according to Yahoo! News, he was looking to get a new contract after his last five seasons in Kansas City. Unfortunately, he was only given two options: sign a one-year contract or sit out. The fact that he waited so long to sign wasn’t a good move either – it could have angered the team’s executives enough to make things difficult and it might have hurt his chances signing a long-term deal. His absence gave wide receiver Johnathan Baldwin a chance to show his worth to the coaching staff.

Bowe had a great season last year – catching 81 passes for 1,159 yards and five touchdowns. While he has a one-year contract, do you think it was a smart move for him to hold out on signing the tender? Let’s hear what you have to say!
