In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on August 1st, Pittsburg Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger shared that he had a rotator cuff tear – but it wasn’t the first time he mentioned something about his injury. Last spring, he shared during an interview that he experienced a shoulder injury in a game against the Baltimore Ravens during the 2011 season.

In the interview, according to the newspaper, he is quoted as saying, “I’m good. It’s ok, just sore. I have a little torn rotator cuff. That doesn’t heal. We just have to hope it doesn’t tear the rest of the way, according to the doc[tor].”

In the 2011 season, Roethlisberger was sacked 40 times – the most in the AFC, and he suffered from other injuries including a high ankle sprain and thumb fracture. Despite his shoulder pain, he is optimistic about the future of the Steelers for the 2012 season. In the same interview, Roethlisberger expressed his hopeful expectations for the new offense set up by Tom Haley, offensive coordinator.

His injuries aren’t the only thing on his mind, either. According to ESPN, the Steelers’ wide receiver Mike Wallace has still not signed a contract, and talks between the team and Wallace are going nowhere. Roethlisberger says, “I don’t know what’s going on with his agent or what they’re telling each other, but he wants to be here. I believe he will be here and I think he’ll be here soon.”

Sound off! What is your opinion of Roethlisberger playing with an injury?

Well with someone that has this kind of injury, torn rotator cuff, I can say it will affect him when it happens. Its a sensation that feels like your arm popped out and the sound of ripping paper. and it takes about a week to get the sore to cool off. It happens in certain positons the arm would be, so its really all about luck. but when it happens, You can say bet they would sub him out right away.
