It’s good when the Wide Receiver position comes up during the draft. You might not get Detroit’s Calvin Johnson but this year that is okay. Even if you forget to restack your draft order and miss the draft, you are still bound to grab a few really good points grabbers at the WR spot. Now, let us examine a couple of expert views, and see if we agree.

This position is easily the most stacked of any on the field. We’ll just look at a couple of lists that might assist you in choosing which great receiver you want to grab for your team. ESPN’s Matt Williamson and www.nfl.com both have similar and affective draft ranking.

ESPN:

  1.  Calvin Johnson
  2. Larry Fitzgerald
  3. Andre Johnson
  4. Steve Smith
  5. Greg Jennings

NFL:

  1. Calvin Johnson
  2. Andre Johnson
  3. Larry Fitzgerald
  4. Steve Smith
  5. Victor Cruz

The lists are very similar. Calvin Johnson is an obvious number one. His size and ability have proven to put him at the top of the league of great pass catchers. Andre Johnson is someone who could and should have a year almost as good as Calvin Johnson. The only question mark there comes from his injury history but as of now he is healthy and looking great in preseason games. Steve Smith is a perennial top five choice as long as he is in the league. The competitive spirit, drive and ability combined with great route-running will keep him as a great almost no risk pick. Larry Fitzgerald has also made a good habit of remaining in the top few receivers and shows no signs of slowing down. Look for him to shine once again in the desert. The Cowboys’ Dez Bryant is young but could springboard to the tip top of the pack any given week or year. This could be that big breakout year for him if he keeps things together on and off the field. Throw in Victor Cruz who grabs Eli’s passes out of the air and Greg Jennings who snatches down skins from the best QB in the league, and you have a great big group of receivers to choose from.

Here is how we see it:

  1. Calvin Johnson
  2. Steve Smith
  3. Andre Johnson
  4. Larry Fitzgerald
  5. Greg Jennings
