In the second day of attention-grabbing headlines, the media certainly has a lot to talk about when it comes to the New York Jets. Of course, as training camp is getting underway, there seems to be a huge interest in Tim Tebow – and that’s surprised Jets owner Woody Johnson. Not everyone seems to be a fan of Tebow, though.

Former Jets player Boomer Esiason says the team should cut Tebow. In one of Esiason’s radio shows he said, “You can say whatever you want about Tim Tebow. He played some of the worst football that any quarterback has every played in the history of the game last year at times.” Ouch! Owner Johnson doesn’t agree with Boomer’s statements. In an interview with the NY Daily News, Johnson said, “I disagree with that. I think Tebow is going to be a very valuable part of this team moving forward. We’re optimistic that Tim can be a valuable part of the team.”

Other issues plaguing the team are fights during training camp between players. While altercations during training are nothing new, Coach Rex Ryan has had enough. For the second time this week, a brawl between defensive and offensive players broke out. Rough play sparked tension between players, and it all went downhill from there. Is there trouble brewing between the team that might spill into the season? Johnson doesn’t seem to think so. “This is camp,” he says. “They’ve been hitting each other for two weeks now, so things are going to boil over. They boil over every year in every camp. I mean, it’s just not the New York Jets.”

During a press conference after Tuesday’s latest team altercation, he addressed the media’s implication that the Jets weren’t as disciplined as they should be. He was quoted in ESPN as saying, “Everybody has a right to their opinion, no matter how wrong they are. I think we’re a little more disciplined than what the general perception is out there. You can’t have the wins we’ve had in the past and not be a disciplined football team. It hasn’t been good enough because we haven’t won a Super Bowl yet, but we’re aiming to.”

So, fans! Does this give you any confidence the Jets are going to have a good season? Let’s hear what you think!

Is this tension going to help the team get stronger, or are they headed toward an unimpressive season?
