MJD holdout almost over?

As we mentioned last week, running back Maurice Jones-Drew was holding out for a better contract and was even looking to be traded from the Jacksonville Jaguars after it seemed the team wouldn’t meet his requests. On Saturday, Coach Mike Mularkey said during a conference call with reporters that he is hearing rumors that the holdout will end soon, but the information isn’t coming from any real credible sources.

He says, “heard the same things like you have, but nothing from people that need to tell me. Nothing personally from Maurice.” The holdout began when Jones-Drew wanted to renegotiate his contract, which was made for $31 million dollars. He still has two years left on his contract, but the team claims they will not be renegotiating at this time. It is possible that Jones-Drew will end the holdup just in time for the regular season, which means he won’t suffer from a lost paycheck.

Tension between Jones-Drew and the organization came to a head last week, when team owner Shad Khan made some unflattering public remarks about him. Jones-Drew’s agent, Adisa Bakari, told the Associated Press that, “Maurice wants to play for an organization that wants him and for an owner who respects him and values what he brings to a team — on the field, in the locker room and in the community.”
