Marc Mariani left Thursday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals after suffering from a fractured left tibia, according to ESPN. The wide receiver was injured during a punt return during the first quarter of the game. He’s been an asset to the Titans, joining the team in 2010 and showing his skills – which included an 87-yard punt return and 98-yard kickoff return for touchdowns. In the same season, he set a franchise record total of 1,859 kick and punt yards – as well as a spot in the Pro Bowl.

In 2011, he had a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown. This season, he was working hard to get ready for a larger role on the team. In Thursday night’s game, he returned the opening kickoff 29 yards and suffered a broken leg on a 14-yard punt return. Coach Mike Munchak confirmed Mariani broke his fibula and tibia in his lower left leg. “”That’s something in football you don’t want to see, and it’s hard to see that and continue on with the game,” Munchak said.

Fans watching the game on television saw the freakish injury – and coverage of the game showed Mariani on the ground as the Colt’s doctor was placing an air cast around the broken bone on his lower leg. According to CBS Sports, Mariani’s absence will likely have Darius Reynaud – a fourth year RB, as his replacement.

”We saw him being a great role for that along with the return game,” Munchak said. ”That’s a big loss for us.”

Fans! Do you agree with Munchak? Do you think Darius Reynaud can step in a do a good job? Let’s hear your thoughts!
